Top ten historical sights in Bulgaria…

Many of my friends from abroad and all these guys I want to befriend at social sites like facebook, sodahead, etc. know little of my native country, Bulgaria and my people. Probably that’s why they are usually frustrated to realize a person from a far away, unknown country would like to connect with them. Their frustration’s origin is in the fact that many of my compatriots ask for money and try many cunning ways to cheat and steal stuff… Yet, it doesn’t mean all the Bulgarians are the same mean and horrible cheaters :), my many foreign friends already know that, I guess. Actually, when foreigners learn a bit more about Bulgaria, they begin to like Bulgarians too, with all their good and bad sides. Some interesting & important facts about animals and plants.

One of the basic rules of articles/posts/notes’ writing is that no author should write that way so that the potential readers would feel stupid and incompetent. Probably some people would be offended by this post/note of mine (if it shows their ignorance), but I hope even they would agree such info could help anyone to discover the wonders of our world, to correct some mistakes many of us do all the time, to change our opinion about the “nasty” or “scary” creatures we come across every day. Being graduated in biology, I couldn’t refrain from posting some of these facts, in brief (I use many similar in some of my books too):

Plants are living beings, so they do breathe as all the animals, though they “inhale” oxygen mostly in the daytime, and “exhale” carbon dioxide in the night.

Chickens are the most common birds in the world, not pigeons or sparrows, we could find them on almost every continent, not in the coldest places only.

Whales and dolphins are not fish, they are mammals and breathe air like every other terrestrial beings. The easiest way to distinguish such sea mammals from fish would be to have a look at their tails. All the modern sea mammals have horizontal tails, which are a perfect tool to dive and come out to the surface to breathe air. Fish’s tails are vertical.

To cut a worm in two pieces doesn’t make two worms, though the creature regenerates. The part with the end regenerates an end where it is cut, so soon after that it could not do all the vital things which keep it alive.

Just because crocodiles live most of the time in water doesn’t make them amphibians. They are reptiles, terrestrial beings that like water. The best way to find out which element of nature is primal for any species is to see where that species breed (so, crocodiles are terrestrial, frogs are amphibian).

Spiders are not insects, thought they are close-related. Insects are at a higher state of evolution, they have 6 legs, spiders have 8.

Birds hate to be touched and caressed, as that way we usually ruffle their feathers (it takes a lot of time to set them right, it seems). Yet, they all like to be touched and caressed on the head, there and then the feeling is similar to the one they feel when they scratch their heads with their claws.

 Plesiosaurs and pterodactyls are not dinosaurs, they belong to different groups, which are close to that of dinosaurs, yet not exactly the same.

The adult moths don’t eat our clothes, they don’t have a mouth or any digestive tract, their larvae are the ones who we have to blame…

All the mosquitoes that bite us and carry all those awful deceases are females; males eat nectar from flowers… etc.

Can worst criminals become sane and carrying people?

All our history is checkered with disgusting crimes of murder, torture, rapes, etc. That’s why some of the killers and criminals responsible for these dreadful events became so famous with their illegal actions that probably many real celebrities envied them for their notoriety.

On the other hand, a lot of other innocent men, women and children, who experienced such crimes, couldn’t sleep well for week, years, or until the end of their days because of these vile acts (if they survived the worst criminals’ way to earn their living). Most of these victims would always claim the disgusting people who caused them so much trouble and pain must endure the most severe punishments. The poor sufferers would underline the guilty for their inevitable situation deserve such a fate, no matter whether they repented themselves of their previous sins or of what made them ruin many innocent citizens and villagers’ future. Of course, after the horrible events from their past, the innocent victims have every right to think that way (criminals like the pedophile who a couple of years ago raped and after that killed a six year old girl in Bulgaria deserve the nastiest, most extreme and merciless end). Yet, it doesn’t mean many of the sentenced criminals couldn’t regret for their dreadful crimes in the future. Of course, this shouldn’t be considered a good excuse for the total remission of their sins and punishments. Though it should take its place amongst the reasons why, if not all, then many (or most) of the horrible gangsters and murderers could really change their frame of mind, behaviour, way of life, etc for better…

“Deep down even the most hardened criminal is starving for the same thing that motivates the innocent baby: Love and acceptance.”This quote of Lily Fairchilde made me become more wrapped in this subject and remember some details about some of the horrible outlaws’ past and deeds. The same details probably helped the one who said this sentence to realize the truth in such a statement. Many of the sentenced or still free criminals have good families, carrying wives, children who have the best education possible, their friends enjoy many benefits such not-perfect but wealthy persons could offer, etc… I guess people who have kind thoughts like these together with the enormous striving for the so called “greatness” in the crimes’ world are capable of turning into something like decent human beings? If the will is there on their part, of course…

It’s a well-known fact that every fact (scientific or any other) and rule have their exceptions. So, there certainly are such gangsters and all other types of criminals (including politicians) who wouldn’t change their behaviour and way of life even for all the gold in the world. If there is such an offer, I even bet some of them would gladly take the enormous quantity of precious metal and would continue with their disgusting deeds, even more than before (when Al Capone was killing people for example, he had such a brain waves’ picture as the vicious predators in the animal world when they try to “earn their living”… Probably only death could put an end to such a way of thinking and life…).

The subject of the changes that the worst criminals could go through is so vast that anyone could write a novel about it I guess. But a blog post/note like this should just point out some basic facts and details and leave enough space for comments? Which complete the author’s thoughts and opinion?

The good way to make even the worst horror movies valuable.

I know I already wrote and posted a similar post about changing soap operas into something everyone would appreciate. Yet, I guess all the people and fans would agree there’s a huge difference between the long, modern love and treachery stories and the dreadful plots and creatures, criminals and monsters of the horror movies. Therefore, I’d say there should be a great difference too between the ways to make soap operas and motion pictures with too much blood and killings worthy of Oscars?

Actually, there’s also an enormous difference between the fans of these totally different kinds of movies. The guys who couldn’t live without the dreadful events of the horror stories are usually youngsters with uneasy and troubled minds (and good imagination), or future criminals and murderers, or not so young people with insane thoughts and desires. While the fans of the long (and meaningless according to many critics and common viewers) soap operas could be found mostly amongst down to earth housewives and their husbands and friends who above all appreciate family values and simple, everyday joys. Modern love sagas’ men and women would never kill or torture someone for the pure joy of such an awful act, unless their life or the life of their kin and friends are endangered. They would never go to a school or other public place with a loaded gun and a lot of ammunition to send to heaven or oblivion many innocent kids or men and women. Their thoughts would never lead to a mass murder just to “show and prove” the righteousness of an idea, or to make the world “a better place”… On the other hand, the horror movies’ fans would do any of these incredibly vicious deeds, and wouldn’t hide the fact the bloody “tips” they could see in their favourite motion pictures were their inspiration and mottos for their insane and disgusting deeds.

“Horror movies don’t create serial killers, they just give them ideas.” These were the words of a character from Psycho (the 1998 version), though many of the enemies of the bloody stories would say quite the opposite. As there are so dreadful horror movies that they could provoke desire for blood spilling and killings even in the most kind-hearted and non-violent spectators, I will always remember the interview of a mother who said that the main reason for her son to become an insane killer were the awful scenes from his favourite bloody motion pictures. Such madness should make us all want to welcome a law or rule that would forbid the creation of movies in which one could only see meaningless murders, cruel killings and lots of other disgusting activity. The horror moments in such motion pictures should be just hints; the rest should be some wise thoughts, some philosophy, some noble deeds… In other words, they should become a combination of genres, then, any movie fan would see the wisdom there, not the inspiration for insanity… Just for example, there are a lot of killings and horrible moments in The Lord Of the Rings too, yet as there is a lot of philosophy and wise thoughts, it became the movie of the year at the annual Oscars and wouldn’t be a movie which could inspire desire to end humans’ life…

I guess it is not the only way to make the horror movies valuable; many other people could give some even better ideas. But I bet anyone would agree to combine the horror with philosophy and wisdom and create a rule or law about that could be a good cause to drastically decrease the awful side effects of the bloody and deadly scenes.

Happy 1st March + some advice for flu healing + some jokes :)

Hapy 1st March, everyone! It’s a very special date for every Bulgarian! On that day we give one another small souvenirs, Marchers, made of white and red threads, we Bulgarians pin them on our clothes for good luck and health or tie them on our wrists, then wear them until we see the 1st stork or the first blossom on a tree that gives fruit, then we hang them on that tree or put them under a stone, so that the good luck and health won’t leave us troughout the year ;). This custom is so old, more old than 1300 years, can you believe that! It’s older than the foundation of Bulgaria itself!

As I was sick with flu for a week, I couldn’t refrain from re-posting some good advices for healing some of my facebook friends told me:

Mariya Doncheva Drink herbal tea with Maple Syrup (or brown sugar) and lemon a couple of slices !!! Eat hot chicken soup…with black pepper or red chilly at night and raw garlic or red onion for lunch!!!

Beverly Cialone Don’t know if you drink alcohol, but there’s a lot to be said for a “hot toddy”…a drink of liquor with honey and lemon added in…try it! In the meantime, hope you get to feeling better!

Beverly Cialone And follow the regular advice as well…plenty of rest, liquids (hot liquids help break up congestion–coffee, hot tea, etc), make sure to keep your electrolytes balanced to avoid dehydration if you’ve been having stomach issues…don’t force yourself to eat if you’re not hungry, although bland foods like plain toast, saltine crackers, applesauce, bananas, etc,. help if you’re stomach is upset. So does ginger.

What’s the real reason for racism?

As strange as it may sound, there was no such thing as racism in antiquity. This dreadful attitude of some human races appeared later, when the so called superior white men decided they had the right to enslave the different (inferior according to their opinion) people with different colour of the skin.. To justify their deeds, as the years went by, they concocted many reasons for their right thoughts. Many of the racists would claim they have nothing against the black, dark, red, yellow, etc colour of the other races’ skin. They would also cross their hearts after that, when they would explain it’s the way of life many of the representatives of these inferior races lead that makes them wish to close every gypsy, black man and woman or red-skinned Indian, etc in gas cameras. These “noble” racists would add some true facts, of course: most of the gypsies (especially in some poor, ex-communist countries) bathe once a month or even more rarely, beg out in the streets and would steal anything more valuable they could snatch; the gypsy families give birth to many children, so that they could take the family allowance the country give to help mothers with young and infant children, the gypsy parents prefer to send their kids to beg in the streets than to go to school and later become a qualified specialists, as that way their heirs and heiresses could bring some money home, etc. The so called “noble” racists would point out too that many black men in the developed countries are part of disgusting gangs that deal with drugs, killings, thefts, etc, and the other races with different skin colour worship other moral and philosophical values and gods and religion, too different from the righteous Christianity. The fans of the racist theory would not forget to say there are many evidences about the stupidity of the inferior races, which “live on the back” of the normal societies of white men. The racists would point out too evidences of the low IQ of some of the races with different skin colour, and would even shout there are already different, more effective medicines for black men, as the ordinary ones the white race use could even harm them…

After all these speculations, I would like to ask racists what is the first thought that springs up in their mind when they see black, yellow or red-skinned, etc men and women. It is not what awful thieves, beggars, gangsters, killers, etc some of them are, it’s usually how “awful, disgusting, even frightful” the other races’ people’s faces, appearances and features are… Meanwhile, no one of the righteous fighters for a perfect world would remember that a lot of white men steal much more than any gypsy, black-skinned thief or gangster, etc (just bear in mind that the biggest thieves are amongst corrupted politicians and big corporations’ managers’ crew). Yet, most of the racists wouldn’t want to send any white-skinned thief or murderer to a gas camera or wouldn’t like to make soap of them (as they would with gypsies, black men, etc). To show I don’t speak/write in vain, I’ll point out what happened with a gypsy boss of Bulgarian alcohol mafia a couple of years ago. Being too cocky and feeling too invincible, he killed an innocent youngster with his car (which was awful, of course)… Right after that, his few villas were surrounded by many representatives of nationalistic Bulgarian organizations, they set them on fire and destroyed hs properties, then claimed to kill all the gypsies everywhere in the world, but didn’t say a word about other as much awful Bulgarians who did such awful deeds too… I guess that’s just another prove that the “dreadful” appearance of other races is the main reason for racism… I guess too anyone could point out many other proves about that…

As for the facts that black men are more stupid than any of the white race, my personal experience shows the opposite. I haven’t met black men or gypsies, etc yet who would wonder why people don’t use walkmans anymore but buy MP3 players, or cannot use computers and Internet for anything else than to play some of the simplest games… While there are some white men I know who are so narrow-minded and “insane” to do some of these stupid things…

Well, I don’t want to claim all the gypsies and black men, etc are perfect, many of them are awful, indeed. But would like to remind about the great difference between gypsies in ex-communist countries and so called developed ones for example… There, the gypsy families have jobs, don’t beg in the streets and behave as “normal” white men’s families… So, if they could be such good guys, then their compatriots that steal and beg in the streets could become “normal” too, they just need some help, much more different than sending them to gas cameras or making soap of them?

BTW, I hope this post/note of mine will show to all the people that I’m not a racist, as some thought after reading my first Tale Of The Rock Pieces, because of my characters with brown skin, which I depicted as the most horrible, disgusting, greedy, despicable, etc human race that ever existed on Earth (though I showed clearly it had nothing in common with any black race of today…).

Good and bad sides of torrent sites…

I am pretty sure all the directors, screen-writers, actors, common writers, etc hate all those sites in the World Wide Web where one could find and download for freee (in other words steal) a lot of their works. There are a lot of such sites, available mostly in the countries with a lower standard of life, and the entertainment industry loses billions of dollars every year because of the shrewd movie, music, books’, etc thieves. I can’t remember the exact numbers, yet it’s not a secret they are enormous…

Of course, it’s well-known using such sites is equal to the same vile acts like stealing of goods In a supermarket, a shop for electronics, or in a book-store and kiosk for newspapers and magazines. Yet, as a famous Bulgarian proverb goes, every evil leads to something good. As strange as it may sound, torrent sites could help the film and publishing industries to sell better their products (and to produce better movies, books, etc.)

There are enormous quantities of motion pictures and written works that appear every year on the market and usually a short trailer is not enough for potential customers and fans to see whether a movie is worth watching or later on buying on DVD. Yet, if we use a torrent site and watch a copy to see all the qualities of a product of the entertainment industry (good dialogues, wise thoughts and quotes, incredible sights and special effects, etc), the chances for that movie (with a good quality, on an original DVD, blue-ray, etc) to become a significant part in our collection increase drastically. Before someone would say such thoughts are a sign of an insane mind, just remember that usually the motion pictures we could download from a torrent site are not good quality, compared to the copy we could buy on DVD. That’s why if a movie is really worth watching, i. e. contains a really good and intriguing plot, true and actual wisdom for any period of our history, sights we could see only in a good motion picture, or exchange of funny words and such conversations that we could remember them till the end of our days (or even after that too), etc, then everyone will be tempted to buy it the proper way and really enjoy all the qualities we could see there.

That’s why I guess torrent sites could be a good way to remind all the directors, screen-writers, actors and actresses how essential it is to create really good final products. To use sites for free downloading of movies, books, music, etc is still a theft, it is the only truth (and no one should deny they are right to ban them in many countries). Yet, it doesn’t mean such sites couldn’t help in many cases for the creation of masterpieces in the entertainment industry.

BTW, this post of mine is not concocted just like that in my spare time, it is based on personal experience. After stealing some movies from such “useful” sites, I bought a lot of them: Medicine Man, some versions of The Lord Of The Rings, even before Peter Jackson’s trilogy saw the light of day, Schindler’s List, some Star Trek episodes, Terminator 2, Chaplin, Star Gate, Kung Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon, Decisive Time (Време Разделно), one of the best Bulgarian movies, etc.
